“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” —Ecclesiastes 3:1
Dear Friends,
As I reflect on these words, I feel a mix of emotions as I share that I will be transitioning out of the Executive Director role at Barren Heights.
After more than seven incredible, fun, and faith-filled years leading this ministry and truly a lifetime of being part of it, I believe it’s time to make space for new leadership and fresh vision. This decision comes after much prayer, reflection, and a deep sense of peace. That said, I’m not stepping away anytime soon.
Over the next two years, here’s what you can expect:
- I’ll continue serving as Executive Director during the transition period.
- A committee will begin the search and hiring process for my replacement.
- Once this person is in place, I’ll move into an operations and advisory role to ensure a successful handoff.
I have complete confidence in our amazing staff and dedicated Board of Directors to keep leading with love, passion, and excellence. Even after the transition is complete, I’ll still be around serving as a volunteer wherever I can. My heart for this community isn’t going anywhere!
As I’ve shared this news with family and friends, a few common questions have come up, and I imagine some of you may be wondering the same things.
Am I worried about the future of Barren Heights?
Not at all. This has always been God’s ministry, and He continues to bring the right people at the right time. Barren Heights is growing, thriving, and constantly finding new ways to love and encourage special needs families.
Will it be hard to step away?
It will definitely be different, but I’m not stepping away from Barren Heights, just stepping into a new role. I’ll still be cheering, supporting, and serving in new ways.
Who will replace me?
At this time, we have not identified the next Executive Director, but a search committee (which I’m part of) is finalizing the job description and posting soon. If you know someone who might be a great fit, please reach out to me—I’d love to make an introduction. I’m excited to walk alongside the next leader as they step into the role.
Why now?
I’ve felt God nudging my heart in this direction for some time. During recent vision planning with our Board, I sensed that God might be preparing both me and Barren Heights for a new season of leadership. With that in mind, I wanted to give our ministry ample time to prayerfully search for and transition a new Executive Director.
When I was hired, the transition process took several months, and I experienced firsthand how meaningful a thoughtful handoff can be. This is a big role, and ensuring a smooth, healthy transition matters deeply to me. I love Barren Heights and want nothing more than to see how God continues to work through this ministry and its incredible community.
Thank you for your love, prayers, and support as we move into a new season.
With love and gratitude,
Abbi Rose
