We simply want special needs families to have the opportunity to relax, refresh, and rejuvenate with a weekend retreat at a facility with their needs in mind.
Our weekend retreats are for the whole family! We host around 18 family retreats a year, from June through October. Our retreats run from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon and consist of four volunteer host families serving three guest families. There is a nice mixture of scheduled group activities and family free time. Mainly, the weekends are a time for families to relax, play, and get to know others who are dealing with similar situations. A few family favorites include archery, a bonfire, barn church, crafts, the Goliath challenge, tractor rides, our splash pad, board games, puzzles, basketball, 9 Square in the Air®, ping pong, tennis, pickleball, frisbee golf, and more!
Most of our guests just need a break—and that is exactly what we provide. Our beautiful facilities are fully accessible and your private cabin includes a modern kitchen, large accessible bathroom, queen size bed, and pull out couch. During your time at Barren Heights, food is provided and prepared by our amazing volunteers.
Guest Check In is between 6:30 – 8:00 PM CT on Friday.
Guest Check Out is between 12:00 – 12:30 PM CT on Sunday.

Our Specialty Retreats run through the winter (off season) months, giving men, women, and couples the chance to grow and be encouraged by others walking the same path.
This weekend adventure inspires and refreshes men as they discover how to live a renewed life with a God-given passion. The retreat is an honest trek into the deep passions and desires of a man’s heart, the healing of the wounds he’s taken in this battle, the realm of fatherhood, sex, God, and calling—life as it was meant to be lived.
This overnight retreat provides a relaxing retreat from daily life where you can connect with other women and be refreshed and inspired. Think about what it may feel like to not put that mask on every time you walk out your front door? Discover how God steps in to give us the freedom in Him to be who we were created to be through living an unmasked life before Him and others.
This weekend retreat provides a nice blend of relaxation, rejuvenation, and romance, as couples learn about the integral relationship building blocks of Love and Respect. Cracking the communication code between husband and wife involves understanding one thing: that unconditional respect is as powerful for him as unconditional love is for her.
We invite you to stay connected to what’s going on at Barren Heights! You will receive inspirational stories, ministry updates, event information, lots of fun pictures, and more!
