Do you love to have fun with other families?
Are you looking for ways to make a kingdom impact with your family?
Do you want to make a difference but aren’t sure where to start?
We need you to serve with us!
A short-term mission trip is defined as “the mobilization of Christians to share the love of Christ with others in their own city, state, country, or across the world.” A weekend spent serving at Barren Heights truly is a free family mission trip. We welcome families with kids of all ages to join us in our mission of loving and encouraging special needs families.
Our Retreat Center Getaways run Friday night until Sunday afternoon every weekend from the beginning of June through mid October. They are a balanced mix of fun free time along with structured activities. Due to Covid, each weekend, there are two- three volunteer families that serve two guest families. As a volunteer host family, your role is essentially that of a camp counselor! There will be age appropriate jobs assigned to each volunteer, but your main role is simply to make sure the guest families have the best weekend ever! To learn more or for further questions, contact us!
Together we can create more compassionate communities where all families feel loved, accepted, welcome, and safe, regardless of abilities!
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
1 Peter 4:10
Barren Heights is a volunteer driven organization. Since 2005, we have engaged over 300 volunteer families to join in our mission of loving and serving special needs families. We provide families a unique and free opportunity to answer Jesus’ call to “care for the least of these” by serving together and investing in those who often feel alone, overwhelmed, and broken by giving them rest, renewal, reassurance, and most importantly, a community where they feel loved, accepted, welcomed, and safe.
Our volunteers are taking their skills and awarenesses gained from serving at Barren Heights into their daily lives, extending the impact of the Barren Heights ministry. We are seeing children who have grown up volunteering in our community with a heightened awareness for those with disabilities, and the skills to know both how to interact and to form special friendships. Volunteering for a weekend is just as rewarding and life changing for many host families as it is for guest families, and that is the beauty of Barren Heights. They now understand that people with disabilities can teach everyone a great deal about the important things in life.
