We have multiple volunteer opportunities to share and are so thankful for our wonderful volunteers that serve faithfully. Do you want to be a part of the impact this awesome ministry is making and have 1-2 hours to give? Many hands makes light work!
At the Barren Heights Retreat Center in Scottsville, KY and at the Community Center in Louisville, KY, there are many ways to get involved individually, as a small group, or as a family. It is our desire to connect your gifts, talents, and passions to our mission.
Community Events Volunteer – We host multiple community events in the Louisville area throughout the year, and oftentimes we need help setting up, tearing down, helping during the event, and preparing for large events in advance. On a more consistent basis, we often need help organizing and cleaning our Community Center and with large administrative tasks such as preparing mailings or material packets for retreats. If you are gifted in the area of hospitality or administration, helping at our Community Center and at our community events may be a great (& local!) fit for you! Some roles require a background check and referral. You can find our list of community events here or can email tyler@barrenheights.org for more ways to serve in the Louisville area.
Co-host a Retreat as a Family – Do you enjoy the outdoors, playing games with new friends, and serving together as a family? From June through October, we host weekend retreats for families who have children with physical and intellectual disabilities. Come and be a part of these fun weekend retreats by serving these wonderful families. Being a host family will require completing our application process with a referral/background check and a panel review. Learn more and apply to serve here.
Volunteer at Work Day – Each spring we host a fun and productive Retreat Center Work Day where the whole family can serve. Work outside in the sunshine and help us clean, organize, paint, make repairs, and clean up landscaping. Everyone can participate! Participate as a family, couple, or even by yourself. Sign up for our email list to be notified when registration of our annual Work Day opens in the spring.
Prayer Team – One of the foundational ways that we enact our misssion to love and encourage families is through the power of prayer. It is the privilege of our Prayer Team to support our community by praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and lifting concerns and requests that we receive through our website, social media, retreats, and events up to the Lord. Learn more and join the Prayer Team here.
We invite you to stay connected to what’s going on at Barren Heights! You will receive inspirational stories, ministry updates, event information, lots of fun pictures, and more!
