“We found about about Barren Heights from someone in a Dayton, OH special needs support group on Facebook. We did not know what to expect, and hoped that we could manage our son’s difficult behaviors to the extent necessary to be able to have an enjoyable time.
Our first impression was amazing hospitality and friendliness from the volunteer families! It felt like we were all family, and they immediately came to us and started engaging with our children, playing and having fun together. Honestly, an experience like we have never had before. Even our own family members do not engage our children at that level and for that amount of time! I was able to let go and relax pretty much right away! Our 3 children ran off to play with the host children, and we felt comfortable since we were still within eyesight and earshot.
Barren Heights is special to me because of the genuine care and concern shown to our family without judgement! Our kids had a fun time where they could ALL have special attention and choose the outside activities they wanted to do. We were active in our faith prior to attending, but it was great to receive encouragement in our faith and learn from the experiences of other believers. Thank you for providing this ministry! It was such a time of reflection and refreshment that we would not have been able to have anywhere else.”
