“I was raised in Scottsville and moved away when a friend told me about Barren Heights. I was very nervous because my son has severe autism and can be loud. Upon arrival we were greeted with love and acceptance, it was wonderful! We had only been there about 30 minutes when I was able to relax and we realized that the volunteers really were there to take good care of us. We have been blessed to come twice once was when a family cancelled at the last minute and those two weekends were the best two weekends we have ever spent together as a family.
I can’t express enough how wonderful it was to be loved on, prayed for, no judgements, total acceptance and our son felt it too. It is hard to take a child with severe autism most places, but at Barren Heights our son was so good, he felt the acceptance. It was so nice to not worry about stares, judgments, and knowing if he did get loud or have a melt down it was ok.
It was such a peaceful weekend, and we loved Barn Church so much. Barren Heights helped me realize that even though we can’t go to church because of our son’s behavior, that we can still worship, pray and study where we are at.”
