Barren Heights has served families of children with disabilities for over 20 years through FREE family retreats and inclusive community events. We often see surprised faces when we explain how everything we do is absolutely free to our families. Free meals. Free private cabin stay. Free entertainment. Free opportunities to build community. No parent or child has to pay to experience what we do here at Barren Heights, because we have a loving and generous community that offers their financial support.
We are asking YOU to partner with us as we raise $20,000 to send 25 families on a unique, life-giving retreat designed with their needs in mind. Would you support us with a monthly gift of $20? A one-time gift of $200? Maybe even more? Every gift counts!
At Barren Heights, 79% of our operating budget goes to programming. That means 79 cents of every dollar you give goes directly toward serving families who have a child(ren) with physical and/or developmental disabilities. Families who are often overlooked, underserved, and stretched thin. Families who may not go on vacations due to accessibility issues, concerns for safe accommodations, or having to pour their finances into medical bills and therapies rather than fun experiences to connect with their family. At Barren Heights, we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19), and our retreats provide a unique opportunity to encourage special needs families by bringing love, acceptance, safety, and hospitality into their lives all in the name of Jesus. This summer, we will host 16 retreats at our private Retreat Center serving a total of 48 families. Each of these families will receive private lodging, meals, and all the fun one weekend can handle at no cost to them. Because of your financial support, our families can have new, fun, safe, and accessible experiences without adding any financial burden to their already heavy plates.
Our weekend family retreats are entirely volunteer-led and provide a unique opportunity for the whole family to serve together. Our volunteers prepare meals, organize activities, clean up, and most importantly, love on the guest families who attend each weekend. On top of being a local (& free), short-term mission trip opportunity, parents have the opportunity to teach their children how to love and serve others like Jesus. After more than 20 years of providing family volunteer opportunities, we have seen volunteer children grow up, have children of their own, and come back to Barren Heights to start the cycle of service all over again. Your giving provides opportunities for volunteer families to both serve and grow together year after year, generation after generation.
We know no gift is too small (or too big!), but what can your gift accomplish at Barren Heights? Here are just a few amounts and what they cover at our weekend family retreats:
Monthly giving enables us to spend less time and money on things like planning, fundraising, and administration. With the time and money saved, we can focus more of our resources on our mission to love and encourage families who have kids with disabilities.
Fundraising is not the most important thing we do, but it is necessary. Much of our work depends on a reliable source of funds to ensure there are no gaps in the services we provide. We have been changing lives for over 20 years, and we want to go another 20 and beyond!
Monthly giving is easy and convenient for you! For many donors, small amounts of regular giving can be easier to plan for in family budgets. We offer a variety of different payment options so you can choose what best works for your family. It’s a win-win for everyone!
We call our monthly donors our Barren Heights Boosters. As a Booster, you will receive quarterly giving statements, insider ministry updates, and a special monthly touchpoint sharing stories so that you understand the incredible impact of your continued generosity.
