“We heard about Barren Heights through a friend from church who has special needs children as well. We were very nervous but excited to see how others would handle my kids… especially my son. When I first arrived I was very overwhelmed. I struggle with PTSD and anxiety and have received little help with my children as far as embracing them for who they are and loving them through their struggles. I was finally able to let go and relax half way through the second day. My girls were no where to be seen and playing and my son was happily paying in the gazebo and creek area with one of the volunteers. He is usually clingy to my wife and I but he was so happy.
The fact that Barren Heights is a facility that caters and celebrates children as God made them and not how the world wants them to be is what makes Barren Heights special to me. Our children had freedom to be themselves. They were able to play and learn at the same time. God has always been important but it was nice to know that others are out there fighting the same fight as me. I pray that more opportunities come so that God brings more Godly men into my life. We loved being with everyone there and cannot wait for an opportunity to bring the family back!”
